2026 ANNUAL SPRING CONFERENCE (Friday, May 01, 2026)

2026 ANNUAL LCPCM SPRING CONFERENCE

Morning Presentation

“An Integrative Approach to Work with Emotional Avoidance in Asian Clients”

Many clinical trainings highlight effective interventions and moments of emotional breakthrough. While these moments are truly exciting, they can overshadow a quieter but central part of therapeutic work: the strenuous and repetitive process of rolling with emotional avoidance prior to breakthrough.

Based on my extensive work with emotional avoidance in Asian clients, as well as my own lived cultural experience, this presentation invites fellow therapists to look more deeply at emotional avoidance through the Protective Pathways Model—an integrative, culturally responsive framework that centers protection and safety as meaningful responses to cultural legacy and collective trauma. Grounded in cultural–historical and feminist lenses, the model conceptualizes emotional avoidance as an adaptive, relational strategy shaped by culture, power, and attachment needs, rather than as resistance or lack of insight.

Drawing from EFT, IFS, and somatic approaches, the training offers practical guidance for assessing and working with protective strategies in creative, flexible, and culturally attuned ways. Through case examples, participants will learn how to pace emotional work, build safety and resources, and support emotional access without coercion—trusting that understanding protection is a crucial component of empowerment and meaningful, sustainable change.

Presenter: Si Meng, LCPC

Si Meng, LCPC, is a licensed bilingual psychotherapist based in Ellicott City, Maryland. She earned her Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2021 and subsequently built a private practice specializing in relational trauma, communication skills, and immigrant family dynamics. Through her clinical work, she has developed extensive experience working with Asian clients and integrating cultural, relational, and somatic perspectives into therapy.

Afternoon Presentation

“Cultural Multiplicity”

This workshop helps supervisors, mid-managers, other staff members begin to understand the world better, and prevent and overcome cultural, racial, and ethnic divisions and misunderstandings.

Participants will learn the following:

Define and understand aspects of cultural multiplicity

Theories of cultural multiplicity and their impact in clinical standings

Examining one’s individual belief systems and how they relate to cultural multiplicity

How to employ a cultural multiplicity environment in treatment settings

Exploring mock exercises to fully understand all aspects of cultural multiplicity

Presenter: Dr. Juanita DeShazior, LCPC

From Stabilization to Integration: Advanced Trauma-Informed Interventions (Friday, July 31, 2026)

From Stabilization to Integration: Advanced Trauma-Informed Interventions

Presented by Jessica LeTourneau, LCPC

This 2-hour clinical webinar expands on foundational Polyvagal Theory concepts to help participants translate nervous system awareness into trauma-focused stabilization strategies. Building from prior learning on autonomic hierarchy, neuroception, and co-regulation, participants will review how trauma-related symptoms reflect adaptive survival responses and how these patterns shape emotion regulation, relationships, sleep, and coping behaviors.

Using case-based application and practical clinical tools, participants will strengthen their ability to assess nervous system states, identify early signs of dysregulation, and intervene using body-based and regulation-focused strategies. Participants will learn to integrate REACTS tracking, CARESS-based coping replacement, and grounding/orienting techniques to reduce shame, improve client engagement, and support post-traumatic growth through pacing, safety, and stabilization.

Jessica LeTourneau, LCPC has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. She has been established in private practice since 2013 and is the CEO of New Perspectives. Prior to private practice, she worked with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings such as inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, residential treatment, Veterans Affairs intensive outpatient programs, in-home behavioral intervention, and outpatient clinics. She is most passionate about treating military veterans, law enforcement, and first responders.

In addition to her tenure in the mental health field, she has an extensive background in health and fitness and worked as a CrossFit Coach, personal trainer, and group fitness instructor for 15 years.

Most recently, she has been presenting on topics related to trauma, neuroscience, and self-care.
