Presentation Title/Description:

Youth at Risk for Violence:  Assessment & Treatment

Youth at risk for violence have become a significant concern in the US and around the world.  The risk factors differ depending on gender, age, and history of violence.  Learn the different risk factors for chronic violence and potential mass shooters.  Behavioral health providers, teachers, and administrators of schools should be familiar with the risk factors for youth violence.  This will allow personnel to refer youth for a validated risk assessment that will recommend interventions based on history, family problems, school issues, type of violence the youth is most likely to engage in, gender and age.  This presentation will provide information on validated assessments, risk reduction planning, interventions, and creating threat assessment teams in schools or behavioral health agencies.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to name 2 risk factors for a school shooting.
  2. Participants will be able to name two interventions for youth at risk for violence.
  3. Participants will be able to define a Risk Reduction Plan.
  4. Participants will be able to explain how to form a Threat Assessment Team.
  5. Participants will be able to name 3 professional disciplines that should be on a risk reduction plan.
